I hate to disappoint you, but your A) answer failed to address my
question because you changed the scenario. Below is the only scenario your A) answer should be addressing.
Home: UVA, GT, UMD, Rutgers, NC State, and Pitt
Away: Clemson, FSU, Penn St, Tenn, Miami, and UNC
Also, VT's experience in the Big East does support the idea that my scenario above isn't that far fetch after all. Specifically I'm referring to the common belief among Hokie fans that it took VT and Syracuse joining the ACC so VT can finally play a home men's basketball game against Syracuse.
B) There is no guarantee that the promoted team will simply pick up a relegated teams schedule. The league may prefer to use a schedule generator every year to change the order in which the games are played in and whether teams play the newly promoted teams home or away. Based on VT's Big East experience, it is even possible games against teams remaining in the league are impacted too for financially reasons. At least I wouldn't assume that all the participating schools place the interest of the league ahead of the own interests like you see with most of the pro leagues in the US.
